We conclude the program by analysing our relationship with the ‘Other’ using Maro Michalakakos’s Happy Days (Oh Les Beaux Jours),and Savvas Christodoulides’s Ladders Joined Together, as starting points for telling stories of our own. Taking inspiration from Martin Kippenberger’s quotation: “He who confronts the abyss, should not be surprised if he can fly,” we explore what the word ‘abyss’ means to each of us and how different artists interpret it in their work – William Kentridge’s imaginary journey to the moon, and the raft of associations surrounding the sculptures that make up Abraham Cruzvillegas’s installation.
